Dr. Alecia Redway is a New York State Master Teacher Emeritus. Currently, she teaches 7th-grade Honors General Science to students at PEARLS Hawthorne in Yonkers, NY.
Throughout her career, Dr. Redway also taught Regents Living Environment, Regents Chemistry, Regents Earth Science, Forensic Science, 7th and 8th-grade Health, along with 8th-grade General Science. Her passion includes creating inclusive science curricula for the Next Generation Science Standards and studying international science curricula—IB, GCE, and GCSE.
Dr. Redway’s academic research interests include scientific models that are drawings (static and dynamic); grounded theory methodology; culturally responsive-sustaining curriculum, instruction, and assessment; decolonizing practices in secondary science education; Next Generation Science Standards; international secondary science assessments; culture of power/power of culture; science disciplinary onto-epistemological disputes; types of thinking: systems thinking, reflective thinking, reflexive thinking, deductive thinking, inductive thinking, abductive thinking, and interdisciplinary thinking; logic/scientific reasoning
Dr. Redway is always excited to learn and share innovative technologies and instructional strategies with her colleagues. Occasionally, she facilitates workshops on integrating technology, designing inclusive curricula using the Next Generation Science Standards, and implementing data analysis in the content areas.
Dr. Redway earned her Ed.D in Transformational Leadership (formerly Interdisciplinary Studies) from Long Island University, Post Campus, an MA in Science Education, and BA in Psychology from New York University. In addition, she holds New York State Permanent Certificates in Chemistry, Biology, and General Science 7-12 with a Gifted Education Extension.
